Canadian Prime Minister Wraps Up Visit to Cambodia for ASEAN Summit

PHNOM PENH: The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has concluded his participation in the ASEAN Summit, hosted by Cambodia in Phnom Penh. Canada was invited as a guest of the Chair to attend the ASEAN-Canada 45th Anniversary Commemorative Summit.

“During our visit, we got a lot done to strengthen Canada’s partnership in the Indo-Pacific," wrote Prime Minister Trudeau, in a post made on his official Facebook page to recap his participation in the ASEAN Summit.

He said that Canada has announced new measures that will allow the country to work much more closely with ASEAN and its member states, which will have a big impact "on jobs and trade, strengthening economic resilience, and building a more sustainable and green future."

"And through our new Strategic Partnership, we’ll work together more closely to address the challenges and opportunities of today and tomorrow," he further added.

During his time in Cambodia, Prime Minister Trudeau also visited the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum to pay his respects to the victims, and to reiterate Canada’s commitment to peace and human rights.

“We must never forget the Cambodian Genocide, and we must never allow such atrocities to happen again," stated the Canadian Prime Minister.
